Redlands Too Good for United
Last Friday evening Redlands United made the trek down the Gold Coast for the National Premier Leagues Round 12 catch up game against Gold Coast United.
On a cool night at Tallebudgera the home side got away to an early start when Brandon Reeves scored the first of his two goals in the 21st minute.
The half was finely poised with both sides creating scoring opportunities. It was Redland’s Shuto Kuboyama who in the 42nd minute capitalized on the pressure applied by the Red Devils, robbed the defenders of the ball a few meters outside the 18 yard box and fired in a rocket that gave the keeper no chance, levelling the score at 1 all.
Gold Coast however were not to be outdone and regained the lead just before the half-time break when Reeves scored his 2nd of the night. He found himself unopposed inside the box and managed to calmly turn in a cross following some good build up play down the right hand side. Gold Coast went into the half time break leading 2 goals to 1.
The second half continued much like the first with play going from one end of the field to the other. Finally in the 70th minute, after some great team build up play, Godfrey Debele slotted home for the Red Devils and levelling the score at 2 all.
Redlands continued their pressure on Gold Coast and within a minute or two of the restart Debele made terrific inroads down the left flank before being taken down outside of the goal box in a clumsy tackle.
Josh Anderson’s resultant free kick found Alex Hastings who flew above the pack to head home his 2nd goal of the season.
To their credit Gold Coast continued to push forward looking for the equalizer, however Redlands held firm and Jack Richards in goal, continued his fine form to keep the home side at bay.
Redlands continued to create opportunities and we're unlucky not to have increased the scoreline even further.
Redlands return home with the 3 vital competition points and a 2 -3 away win against the 5th placed Gold Coast United.
Next Saturday the Red Devils will be looking to continue their form when they host last placed Sunshine Coast Fire on Saturday afternoon at the Cleveland Showgrounds with a 5pm kick off. The Under 18’s get the afternoon underway at 1pm with the Under 20’s following at 3pm.
