Redlands down in two

Redlands United have gone down for the second time this week with a 3-0 loss to Olympic FC on Sunday evening.

Earlier in the week, Redlands found themselves out of the FFA Cup Preliminary round after a 3-0 loss to 2017 Round of 32 qualifiers Peninsula Power.

While the 3-0 scoreline tells one story, on the field Redlands found themselves unable to score taking a number of crucial chances.

The team have also been hit with a number of injuries to key players including central defender Lloyd Harrington, midfielders Sam Langley, Graham Fyfe and Scott Sargent which forced Redlands coach Nick Dibbs to bring in his U20's players into the squad.

In the end, they couldn't compete against the strength and speed of an experience Power side.

Fyfe and Sargent, who missed the game against Power, made a return against Olympic FC.

Olympic sit top of the table having been unbeaten in their opening eight games of the season with two draws their only blemish.

They came out strong with a number of chances in front of goal but unable to capitalise on them.

However, the pressure on the Redlands defence paid off as Costa Psaros picks out Adam Edgar who puts the ball in the back of the net.

Not much later, Edgar had another chance but it went over the bar.

Liam O'Bryan had the best chance of the half for Redlands as the ball flashed across the face of goal before Olympic's defenders cleared it.

Olympic continued to dominate until the end of the half but it was Redlands who came out looking to level the scores.

Redlands defenders were able to keep Olympic from scoring as they continued to try find a goal as coach Nick Dibbs brought on Carlton Westerdale.

However, two quick goals to Olympic sealed them the three points as they continued their dominance of the league this season.

Redlands tried to find a consolation goal but couldn't find the back of the net.

Redlands United will be back at the Cleveland Showgrounds on Saturday to face North Queensland United from 7pm.
