Redlands go down fighting

20 May 2018

Redlands United have gone down fighting in their 2-1 loss to Moreton Bay United on Saturday night at Wolter Park.

Both sides started the game eager to get on the scoreboard first as both side goalkeepers had to pull out saves including powerful strikes from Graham Fyfe and Luke Hendrix.

However, it was Moreton Bay who got off the mark with a goal inside 20 minutes as Alex Janovsky found room on the edge of the box. Moreton Bay continued to pressure the Redlands defence but despite also pressuring the Moreton Bay defence, Redlands had to head into halftime down 1-0.

Redlands came out firing, quite literally, in the opening minutes of the first half as Shuto Kuboyama got his goalscoring back underway with his 11th of the season as he headed home a freekick. But Moreton Bay replied almost immediately as Janovsky bagged a double and put his side back in the lead.

In the last 15 minutes of the match 16-year-old, Robert Kramer made his debut for Redlands as he slotted into the right side of the midfield.

"He made an instant impact with his pace and true no fear attitude to the occasion, whipping in some excellent deliveries," Redlands United coach Nick Dibbs said.

Redlands continued to try and find an equaliser but Moreton Bay weren't going to share the points as they jumped into third on the ladder.

"The boys were excellent and were very unlucky not to get a point or more from a very hard fought game against an in-form Jets side," Dibbs said.

"If we could just capitalise on a few of the many chances we created especially in the first period of the game, the game may have gone our way.

"Disappointed not to get more from the game but truly commend the lads for their effort and positive attitude throughout the 90 minutes," he said.

Redlands United are on the road against with a trip out to Toowoomba on Saturday as they face SWQ Thunder at 5pm.
