Devils Looking to City Battle

The National Premier Leagues competition has reached the halfway point. Redlands United will start the second half of the competition at home this Friday night against Brisbane City with a point to prove.

The Red Devils are coming off a hectic schedule over the past week which saw them travel out to Richlands last Wednesday evening to take on second-placed Lions FC, where they came away with a draw and were unlucky to not take the full points, conceding a goal in the last few minutes of the game to give Lions a draw.

Then Friday night Redlands played host to Eastern Suburbs in the last game of the 1st half of the competition. The Red Devil's led at the half-time break by one goal to nil, thanks to a Shuto Kuboyama goal. The score-line could have even been more in favour of the home side with Redlands hitting the post a couple of times and were very unlucky not to have scored from other opportunities.

The second half was played almost entirely in torrential downpour. Eastern Suburbs pulled a goal back early to level the score at 1 all through Jordan Farina. Despite the horrendous conditions the game progressed from end to end with both sides pushing on. It was Kuboyama who once again gave the Red Devil's the lead in the 77th minute with a superb strike.

As the game progressed in the torrential downpour, it was Farina once again who managed to level the score-line for Easts with a minute to go.

The game continued to go from end to end as both sides pressed on for the victory. Unfortunately for the Red Devil's, it was Easts who managed to push the ball over the line in the second minute of extra time much to the anguish of all the home fans who had braved the wet and wild conditions.

After the game Redlands United’s Assistant Coach Nick Dibbs commented, "Disappointing night obviously, I thought the young lads at the back did really well stepping in. It was a bit of a rearranged side due to a few injuries. We have to learn to hold out and hold on to leads. Up 2-1 and then giving it away losing 3-2 at the death. The boys have to learn from that. Obviously it has been a real busy schedule for us, coming off a good night at lions Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw. Its funny we came away thinking we'd lost 2 points not gaining one. It just shows where we've come from and we're obviously moving in the right direction. Well done to the young lad stepping in and now we hope our injury toll eases up and we can get a few more players back on the pitch."

Next Friday night the Red Devil's are back at the showgrounds with a 7 p.m. kickoff, as they look to avenge the 1st round loss to City.

The Red Devil's are playing an enterprising, entertaining style of football and we need everyone to turn out Friday night, wear your Red and cheer on the lads. Kick is 7pm Friday with the 18’s and 20’s on Saturday at 1pm and 3pm at the Showgrounds.
