Last Saturday Redlands United travelled out to AJ Kelly Park at Kippa Ring for their Round 26 National Premier League clash with competition leaders Peninsula Power. With Power looking towards the Premiership and Redlands in fine recent form this promised to be a great clash.
Redlands caught Power off guard and applied continued pressure on the hosts right from the initial kick off and it paid off in the 3rd minute when Kado Aoci’s diving header put the Red Devil's ahead 1 nil after Peninsula Power failed to clear the ball from their goal mouth after a corner.
Redlands continued to pressure the game and when Igor Sao Jose managed to steal the ball from Power Inside his own half, some nice crisp, fast passing from the Red Devils saw the ball up the other end quickly and turned away for a corner.
Alex Hastings neatly eluded his defender to get onto the end of Josh Anderson’s well placed corner to nod home his 3rd goal of the season and take the advantage to 2 nil in the 23rd minute.
Redlands goalkeeper Jack Richards was kept busy in goals as Power went looking to get onto the score sheet but the Red Devil's defence would not be denied and continued with their impressive start.
Power eventually managed to get on the score sheet in the 37th minute, when Josh Woolley turned in a cross from the right, colliding with keeper Richards but managing to slip the ball into the net.
The sides went into the half-time break with Redlands leading 2 goals to 1.
Redlands came out for the 2nd half very wary of the Power’s counter attacking play.
Power showed why they are sitting at the top of the competition as they came out after the break determined to get the equalizer.
Richards in Redlands’ goal continued to marshal his defence and denying Power’s attacking raids.
In the 57th minute a Power foul on Godfrey Debele saw Josh Anderson step up to take the free kick. It was directed in towards the back post where Aoci, the shortest player on the field lept above his two defenders and head home his 2nd goal of the night and Redlands’ 3rd restoring the Red Devils 2 goal advantage at 1-3.
Straight from the kick off Power pushed hard on the Redlands goal, a deflected shot bounced towards the corner of Redlands goal, but Richards’ diving save pushed the ball away from the goal in the nick of time.
Redlands continued to see off Power’s challenges and come away with a well deserved 3-1 away victory and their 5th win in a row. Next weekend the Red Devils play host to Gold Coast United at the Cleveland Showgrounds in what looms as a very exciting and entertaining game.
