Last Saturday the Red Devils played host to reigning NPL Premiers and competition favourites Peninsula Power. A good crowd at Compass Grounds saw two second half goals to the visitors deny the home side after scores were locked at one a piece for most of the match.

As anticipated Power were fast out of the blocks applying pressure on the Red Devils. Redlands defence held firm until the 30th minute when Power captain Luke Plummer capitalized on a scramble in the Redlands goal mouth and put the visitors in front.

Redlands did not drop their heads and pressured Power across the park. Seven minutes later the home side were awarded a free kick just outside Power’s penalty area.

James Bonomi stepped up and perfectly slotted his free kick over the defensive wall past former A-League goalkeeper Brendan White to level the scores for the Red Devils.

The goal lifted the Red Devils and they continually pressed their opponents and defended stoutly as Power continually pressing forward. The scored remained tied at one all at the half time break.

When the second half commenced it continued in the same fashion until goals midway through the half to Sam Cronin and Zander Guy unfortunately put the game out of the home side’s reach.

Redlands weren’t to be dejected they pressed hard onto the reigning Premiers but as the Ref blew for full time Peninsula Power ran out ran out winners 3-1.

After the game Redlands NPL Head Coach Richard Greer commented, “ Saturday night was another positive performance and a step in right direction despite the result. Peninsula Power are the reigning NPL premiers for a reason. Despite this I felt we matched them for most of the game and had our chances to maybe go ahead. The 2nd and 3rd goal we conceded came from basic errors from us. If we can continue playing with this tempo and performance we will go into next games confident.“

The side now re-groups and has their sights firmly set on their next NPL Qld fixture against Eastern Suburbs at Heath Park East Brisbane on Sunday at a 6.15pm kick off.
